If you have decided to get back together with your ex, you can’t expect that it will be the same relationship you had before it ended. In fact, since the previous relationship ended, you shouldn’t really want it to be the same. Obviously there was something that was not working, and you should work towards finding out what that was and fixing the problem.

Depending on the problem that led to the break up, here are a few things that you can expect as you and your ex forge a new future together. You may not experience all of these things, and there are ways that you can work together to forge a new, positive and healthy relationship.

No matter what the issues were that led to the breakup, you will very likely experience a lack of trust on one or both sides. If you were the one who ended it, your partner will likely be very nervous that it might happen again. This is especially true if there was infidelity or dishonesty in the time leading up to the breakup. If you were the one who was left, you may feel the same way. Both of you should put yourself in the other’s shoes so that you get an idea of the feelings and thoughts that person may be having.

If you say you are going to commit to the relationship again, you must be prepared to actually commit and not simply pay lip service to the relationship. Try to avoid allowing incidents from when you were not together to creep into the relationship, although this can be very tricky to do.

To positively forge a new relationship you must treat the time you were together as a separate time in your life and not hold it over your partner’s head if one or the other of you saw someone in that time period. After all, you were broken up. For all your partner knew, it was going to be permanent and they may have been simply trying to move on with their life. Rebound relationships are common and they are rarely lasting or serious.

When you get back together with your ex, you should think about what the person did that you liked and why you want to be with them. If you honestly can’t think of anything, this may be a warning sign that you should not be together. Try to think rationally about what you both can do to make your new relationship stronger, and communicate that with your partner.

You can’t expect things to be perfect since people are not perfect. When you get back together, there may be times when old issues will flare up. Expect this and find ways to solve problems. This new relationship can be the perfect way to work on problems that may have separated you in the past and can lead to a much stronger and healthier relationship for the two of you.

To forge a new relationship there must be communication from both partners. Working together to build a new relationship can be the best way to get back together and stay together for the long term.
